Breaking: Rep. Steve Scalise Shot During Congressional Baseball Practice

More details continue to emerge from this morning’s carnage in Norther Virginia.

During a practice among Republican congressional members ahead of the annual Republican-Democrat baseball game, shots rang out over the field fired by an unnamed gunman.

At least two individuals were shot, one a staffer and the other House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who is in stable condition.

Capital police were able to detain the shooter after a lengthy gunfight but not before a reported 50 shots or more were fired.

Reports also indicate that the gunman asked whether Democrats or Republicans were practicing before launching his attack.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot in the hip and at least one other aide was also hit in the chest by a gunman with a rifle who opened fire at a baseball practice in Virginia Wednesday morning, Fox News confirmed.

Police tweeted they “believed” the gunman was in custody. Sen. Mike Lee told Fox News, however, the gunman was dead. He said a staffer used a belt as a tourniquet to stop Scalise’s bleeding.

As with any breaking news story, be very, very careful about jumping to conclusions.
