The FBI’s special counsel continues to take heat from various corners as the investigation into Russia and now also obstruction drags on.
And members of both the conservative and mainstream (e.g. liberal) media want the details of Comey’s memos — some of which he already leaked — to be made public.
Quoth the FBI: Nope.
So now the FBI has its own legal trouble as both CNN and the New York Times have filed Freedom of Information lawsuits demanding release of the memos.
If a judge agrees, this could be a whole new can of worms which likely won’t end well either for Comey or the FBI.

The FBI has refused to release to the media the memos its former director, James Comey, penned about his meetings with President Trump, according to a report published Friday.
Buzzfeed said it had requested the documents under the Freedom of Information Act. At least one of the memos Comey mentioned during a hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee on June 8 is unclassified, the report said. However, the news outlet was informed the memos are part of a “pending or prospective law enforcement proceeding” and therefore could not be shared.
Releasing all of the documents could “reasonably interfere with enforcement proceedings,” the agency added.
Comey testified earlier this month that he leaked one of the memos to his longtime friend, Daniel Richman, a professor at Columbia Law School. Comey told the intelligence panel that he wrote down details about his conversations with Trump in order to have a reference point if the administration were ever to disagree about a conversation the two had in the past.
The New York Times and CNN have both filed lawsuits under the Freedom of Information Act for the memos.
