Obama DOJ Rarely Prosecuted Illegal Gun Purchasers

This year has been among the worst in a decade in terms both of violent shooting sprees and in the number of shooting deaths.

But as we’ve pointed out previously, gun regulations are not solving the problem at all, not by a long shot.

And now a recent investigation by Daily Caller has revealed that the Obama administration has been complicit in that number by virtue of the Department of Justice’s failure to prosecute illegal gun purchases.

It’s a potential scandal that could rival the ATF’s ‘gun-walking’ scandal.

According to the report, of the tens of thousands of instances of lying on federal gun application forms every year, only a few dozen were ever prosecuted.

So while Obama and company argued for more gun laws, they didn’t bother enforcing those already on the books.

Interesting.

Here’s more from Daily Caller…

More than 100,000 convicted felons or other “prohibited persons” tried to buy guns each year during President Barack Obama’s administration by lying on their applications, but the Justice Department only considered prosecuting about 30 to 40 people each year, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation.

The Obama administration may have publicly aligned itself with anti-gun activists, but it consistently turned a blind eye to prosecute known criminals who tried to buy guns.

A June 2016 Justice Department Inspector General’s report revealed that between 2008 and 2015 the U.S. Attorneys office considered prosecuting “less than 32 people per year” for lying on form 4473, the federal application to buy guns.

Surprisingly, the Obama administration’s harshest critics are gun manufacturers themselves.
