TX Gov. Abbott Signs Bill Preventing Tax Dollars From Funding Abortions

Once again the Lone Star state is leading the way on smart, conservative policy in ways the federal either can’t or won’t.

While the federal government is still funding Planned Parenthood to the tune of half billions smackers, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott just signed a bill into law barring taxpayer dollars from funding abortions through insurance programs.

And as we might expect, the pro-abort left is frothing at the mouth over that mean, insensitive jerk at the state capitol who doesn’t care for ‘women’s rights’.

Except those of would-be women in the womb, that is.

It’s long past due that Republicans in Congress take a hint from Texas and do what’s right.

Will they? We’re not holding our breath.

Here’s more from Redstate…

Texas has long been a role model for life. Former Governor Rick Perry was a staunch defender of the unborn, and Governor Greg Abbott follows his predecessor with a similar, unwavering defense.

In a time which clearly praises the devaluing of life, and refuses to assign personhood to the unique individuals growing inside of wombs, legislative measures that alleviate taxpayers from participating in the horrific abortion industry are encouraging to see.

On Tuesday, Governor Abbott signed HB 214, a bill that addresses insurance coverage for elective abortions.

Life News reports, emphasis mine:

Abbott signed House Bill 214 (HB 214) that will protect Texans from paying for the abortions of others through their tax dollars and health insurance premiums. The bill limits insurance coverage for abortion procedures. Under this new law Texans will not be forced to pay for elective abortions through their insurance plans. This legislation is an important piece of the Governor’s pro-life agenda that has been championed by Sen. Brandon Creighton and Rep. John Smithee this special session.

“As a firm believer in Texas values I am proud to sign legislation that ensures no Texan is ever required to pay for a procedure that ends the life of an unborn child,” said Governor Abbott in a statement to LifeNews. “This bill prohibits insurance providers from forcing Texas policy holders to subsidize elective abortions. I am grateful to the Texas legislature for getting this bill to my desk, and working to protect innocent life this special session.”

As expected, backlash came from pro-aborts who claimed Abbott was against reproductive rights! And against freedom!
