Shocking: Major GOP Donor Abandons Trump, Backs DeSantis

In the high-stakes world of presidential elections, money talks. And it seems like the cost keeps skyrocketing with each passing campaign. In 2016, candidates spent around $2.2 billion, but that number ballooned to $6.6 billion in 2020. It’s clear that financial backing is essential for a successful bid for the White House, and this poses a challenge for former President Donald Trump.

Yet another influential Republican donor is breaking away from Trump and throwing his support behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the upcoming 2024 election. Hal Lambert, the founder of Point Bridge Capital in Texas, firmly believes that it’s time for the GOP to move forward with the energetic 44-year-old DeSantis.

Lambert stated, “I’m fully behind DeSantis this time. I have big plans to assist him in securing the win.” He praised DeSantis for his effective messaging skills and highlighted the immense value his wife, Casey, would bring to the campaign. However, Lambert expressed disappointment in Trump’s recent performance during a CNN town hall, questioning whether voters who didn’t support him in 2020 would be swayed this time around.

According to sources, other prominent Republican donors, such as Robert Mercer, Rebekah Mercer, Steve Schwarzman, Ken Griffin, Andy Sabin, and Ronald Lauder, are also withholding their support for Trump’s 2024 bid. Some believe that a fresh face is needed to represent the party in the presidential race, signaling a desire for new leadership.

As influential figures like Griffin and Schwarzman publicly voice their reservations, it becomes clear that there is growing momentum to embrace a new generation of Republican leaders. Schwarzman emphasized the importance of forward-thinking leadership, stating, “America thrives when its leaders focus on the present and the future, not just the past.” He pledged his support for a new generation of leaders and intends to back one of them during the primary elections.

The Republican Party seems poised to shift its focus toward rising stars like DeSantis, who offer a stark contrast to President Joe Biden. While Trump may possess considerable personal wealth, he is increasingly reliant on the support of mega-donors. However, with influential figures like Lambert and others gravitating toward DeSantis, it appears that a new chapter is unfolding in conservative politics, setting the stage for an intriguing 2024 race.
