Throughout 2022, Congress sanctioned more than $113 billion in aid for Ukraine, with Biden seeking an additional $10 billion aid package upon the return of Congress from recess. Notably, the U.S. has provided more foreign aid to Ukraine than any other country during this period. A substantial portion of this assistance was allocated to military contractors manufacturing weapons and equipment for Ukraine, while the remainder supplemented Ukraine’s budget and provided humanitarian support.
The Washington Post’s conservative estimate places the total U.S. military, financial, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine since 2022 at approximately $66.2 billion. According to this estimation, the Biden administration could have utilized these funds to complete nearly two brand-new walls spanning the roughly 1,900-mile-long U.S.-Mexico border. This calculation is derived from the roughly $20 million per mile that former President Donald Trump expended on border wall construction, achieving nearly 460 miles of wall between January 2017 and January 2021.
Critics, such as Angel Mom Sabine Durden Coulter, express dismay at Biden’s prioritization of foreign borders over domestic ones. Coulter, whose son Dominic was killed by an illegal alien, asserts that thousands of American deaths caused by illegal aliens and substances like fentanyl could have been prevented with a focus on border security. Coulter highlights the administration’s allocation of billions to Ukraine while domestic security concerns persist.
The unfinished U.S.-Mexico border wall, leaving the majority of the border without physical barriers, has led states to take on the responsibility of border security. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has installed a floating barrier in the Rio Grande to deter illegal immigration, while former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey used storage containers to fill gaps in the border wall. Since Biden commenced substantial aid to Ukraine, the nation has witnessed millions of encounters with illegal aliens at the southern border, with over two million recorded in Fiscal Year 2022 alone.
The opioid crisis has worsened, with over 109,000 drug overdose and poisoning deaths reported last year, primarily linked to substances like fentanyl entering the U.S. from Mexico. As the nation grapples with these challenges, many Americans question the administration’s priorities, advocating for a stronger focus on domestic safety and border security.
