CBS Senior Political Correspondent Robert Costa is hard at work manufacturing a constitutional crisis where none exists—because, let’s be honest, the left needs something to panic about when Donald Trump follows the Constitution to the letter. Meanwhile, the real constitutional crisis, the one where Joe Biden openly defied the Supreme Court, somehow didn’t raise any media alarms. Imagine that.
On CBS Sunday Morning, Jane Pauley breathlessly teased a segment on Trump’s executive orders, ominously warning about what might happen if a president were to gasp ignore the judiciary. Costa then jumped in, playing the role of serious journalist, asking deep, thought-provoking questions like, Where are the lines drawn? and What is a constitutional crisis? Enter Jeffrey Rosen, their go-to “nonpartisan” (who just so happens to always carry water for Democrats), confidently declaring that no president has ever ignored the Supreme Court before. Oh, really? Because Joe Biden did exactly that, and no one in the corporate press batted an eye.
Biden blatantly ignored the Supreme Court’s ruling on his unconstitutional student loan bailout, something he proudly admitted. “That didn’t stop me,” Biden boasted after the Court struck it down. He then went right ahead and found “alternative paths” to push his illegal handouts anyway. But somehow, this wasn’t a constitutional crisis worthy of a breathless CBS segment? No indignant lectures from Robert Costa? No solemn headshaking from Jeffrey Rosen? Apparently, when a Democrat openly defies the highest court in the land, it’s just a “policy disagreement.” But if Trump merely exercises his legal executive authority, then it’s time to sound the alarm.
What CBS really wants viewers to believe is that Trump using his presidential power at all is, by default, a crisis. Because let’s be real—if the Supreme Court upholds one of Trump’s executive orders tomorrow, the left will immediately start wailing about a “constitutional crisis” anyway. Their definition of the term is simple: A Republican is president, and we don’t like it. Meanwhile, Biden can trample all over the Constitution, and the same media figures will yawn and change the subject.
At the end of the day, this isn’t about constitutional integrity—it’s about control. The left cannot stand that Trump refuses to play by their double standards. The reality is that the only crisis happening here is the media’s meltdown over Trump doing exactly what the Constitution allows. CBS could’ve saved itself a whole lot of pearl-clutching by just listening to Jan Crawford, one of the few remaining journalists with a functioning moral compass. But that would require admitting that Trump is playing by the rules—and that simply doesn’t fit the narrative.
